22nd IRF Junior World Championships: still time to sign up!

To All Junior Racquetball Players and Parents

The 22nd IRF Junior World Racquetball Championships will be held at the Spectrum Club Canoga Park in Los Angeles, November 15-20, 2010.  Those who were 18 years of age or less as of January 1st of this year qualify to participate and may play in either one or two events — singles, doubles, or mixed doubles. You do NOT have to be on the official team roster to play in any of the multitude of Challenger Cup events offered. This is one tournament you do not want to miss!

We will be using 18 of the Spectrum’s racquetball courts.  The club is located in the San Fernando Valley district of the city.  It is very close to many extraordinary attractions, including the blue Pacific Ocean (Malibu and Santa Monica), desert locations like Palm Springs, Hollywood, and Disneyland.  Come early and stay late, and also consider that it’s only a five-hour drive or one hour flight to Las Vegas.

The World Cup and Esprit Cup categories are limited to those who have qualified with their national federations.  (The IRF website does not indicate such) Those who qualify for those special events should make certain that their coach or delegate includes them on the official team roster they submit.  Any one else — juniors across the world – are welcome to participate in the Challenger Cup events – without contacting their national federation. Unlike the World Cup and Esprit Cup players, Challenger Cup players can enter on-line using R2Sports or emailing the entry data to: gmampro@comcast.net . If you do that, please make sure that your entry information is accurate.  Encourage all of your friends to play and ask them to check their information in the R2sports website as well.

The initial deadline for entering the World Championships is very close — October 31st.  Because we are so late in getting this word out, we will extend that deadline until November 7th and not charge any extra for late entries even after that new deadline, but do reserve the right to deny entry after the 7th.  For those who enter after the NEW deadline date, please call Gary at (505) 321-1110, or email him at: gmampro@comcast.net with your entry data.  Also any adults accompanying a junior– who wish to play in either the Mens Doubles or one of the Mixed Doubles divisions during the evening hours, should also register just like the Challenger Cup players.

But please act quick!

Finally, make sure that your lodging needs are met by contacting the host hotel — Hilton Woodland Hills.  It is a short 7-minute drive from the club.  You can find the Hilton information on the IRF Website: International Racquetball Federation – IRF.
